Tips for Getting More Sleep

Raise your hand if you are feeling sleepy? I know I can from time to time!

So much can lead us to sleep deprivation, but thankfully there are ways to creating healthier habits to help us & our family get some more Zzz!

Why?

Getting enough sleep is important because it plays a role in chronic disease prevention, weight management, and health promotion!


How much should we be aiming to get?

According to the Sleep Foundation:

•Newborns (0-3 m) 12-15 hours

•Infants (4-11 m) 14-16 hours

•Toddler (1-2 yrs) 11-14 hours

•Preschool-aged Children (3-5 yrs) 10-13 hours

•School-aged Children (6-13 yrs) 9-11 hours

•Teens (14-17 yrs) 8-10 hours

•Adults (18-65+ yrs) 7-9 hours


HOW?

1. Establish a routine - go to bed at the same time each night & rise at the same time every morning.

2. Create a relaxing environment - quiet, dark, & the right temperature.

3. Keep electronics out - use your bed for sleeping instead of watching TV, playing games on your tablet, or working on your computer.
