Navigating the Grocery Store

How many times have you heard, "shop the perimeter?" Sure, you can select many healthy foods around the parameter, but what about the aisles in between?

Here are 3 reasons why I encourage my clients to shop the whole store.

1. Whole - there are so many whole grain options located within the heart of the store. These include cereals, oatmeal, popcorn, loaves of bread, flours, crackers, tortillas, & whole grain pasta.

2. Other fruit & veggies - Fresh is always a great option, but there are also dried beans, peas, lentils, along with frozen, no added/low sodium canned veggies, & dried fruits (choose low sugar/natural).

3. Healthy Fats - these include nuts, seeds, & heart-healthy oils (ex. canola, olive, vegetable)

P.S. I can't forget no added sodium broths - makes healthier soups! How else would we make it through winter?

It’s best to create a grocery list before you visit the store. Writing down ingredients you need to make recipes can decrease impulse buying, saving you money!
