#4 - Step Up Your Dessert with Greek Yogurt

It seems like I have been swapping healthier ingredients for lesser ones for a while now, and it has become part of a healthier routine. Typically, I will substitute at least one, maybe two, healthier options in recipes. It ranges from using no sodium options to reduced-fat dairy products in recipes.

My most recent substitution is using equal amounts of Greek yogurt for sour cream. The change in flavor is so subtle your family won't taste the difference. However, the benefit is that it's loaded with protein, providing about double the amount of protein per serving than sour cream and many other dairy products.

So next time you start your baking adventure, try one of the ways below to boost the protein content of your baked good.

According to US Dairy, here are five other ways to use Greek yogurt in recipes.

  • 2/3 cup Greek yogurt + 1/3 cup oil for 1 cup of oil

  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt + 1/2 cup butter for 1 cup butter

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt for 1 cup heavy cream

  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt + 1/2 cup ricotta cheese for 1 cup ricotta cheese

  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt + 3/4 cup dairy (milk, half &half, or light cream) for 1 cup dairy
