#1 - Making Calories Count

All calories count, even during the holidays. Calories are a concern during the holiday season because calorie-dense foods are everywhere. On top of that, you're worried because you recently lost weight and want to stay on track with healthy habits during the holidays. You worked hard to get where you are now.

My advice, pick and choose what works best for you. Maybe you love Grandma's apple pie just the way it is, and you don't make any substitutions to create a healthier version. Give yourself permission this holiday to enjoy it but have a smaller piece.

However, if you feel better about bringing a lower-calorie dessert to a party as a way to enjoy a holiday treat, try an idea below.

Three simple ways to cut a few calories out of desserts:

  1. If you can, make it without a crust

  2. Try a healthier ingredient substitution

  3. Use a small amount of whipped cream or fruit for a topping versus an icing

Remember, no matter which dessert option you choose, the key is to be mindful and balance your food choices. It will allow you to feel less guilty about having something you enjoy, thus allowing you to have your cake and eat it too.
