Measuring Success Beyond the Scale

When it comes to weight loss, the scale is a way of measuring success. However, there is more to our success than a number. Shifting your mindset to a healthy, more positive way of thinking can keep you moving towards your goals.

Here are five ways we can measure success by looking past the scale and celebrating non-scale wins.

  1. How your clothes are fitting - have you noticed when you put on that pair of jeans or shirt, do they feel looser? These are signs you could have lost inches without taking an actual measurement or hopping on the scale. As you continue with your healthy habits, you may find a shopping opportunity in the near future as a great way to reward yourself.

  2. Better night's rest - was there a time where you felt you didn't get enough rest, and now you wake up feeling energized? Getting a good night's sleep is another way to know your efforts are paying off.

  3. Having more energy - have you noticed you can do more with less effort? Can you walk up the steps without being short of breath or even doing daily activities without feeling so drained? These are wins!

  4. Sharper mind - have you found yourself eating nutritious foods more often or exercising consistently? Both of these can improve your cognition. So, if you find yourself thinking clear, having a better attention span, or even planning, then this is another indicator of success.

  5. Created healthier habits - think back to when you first started your weight loss journey and the rut of daily unhealthy behaviors you were stuck in. Now look how far you have come and what you have accomplished is a huge success! Think of all the ways you have changed. Maybe now you are eating more fruits or veggies, drinking more water, or even getting regular physical activity into your routine, and those are all ways that mark success.

So, the next time when you decide to step on the scale, keep in mind success can be measured in many other ways than a number.
